PRESTON, MARYLAND—June 16, 2017 — Food Logistics, the only publication exclusively dedicated to covering the movement of product through the global food supply chain, has named Choptank Transport to the Top Green Providers list for 2017.
“Being an EPA Smartway partner is just one of the ways we keep the environment and transportation sustainability in mind at Choptank,” said Paul Wood, director of carrier services. “We’ve invested heavily in the latest technologies to offer our customers quick access to information regarding their shipments. Informing those who bear responsibility for a shipment in real time is key to visibility and helps everyone involved in the safe and efficient transport of the nation’s food supply.
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measure reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.
“The future viability of the world’s food supply chain is dependent upon our ability to integrate sustainability from farm to fork,” says Lara L. Sowinski, editorial director. “Transportation and
logistics comprise a significant part of that supply chain, and we commend those companies in our industry that embrace their role as environmental stewards, while raising the sustainability bar for their peers.”
